Getting past that (hopefully that sort of thing won’t need to be repeated) we have larger and more systemic problems. I know that’s one of my buttons but seriously, that’s terrible storytelling.
One exception to that was the appallingly clumsy exposition scene in the cafe – that prompted outright irritation on a high level. And frankly, this premiere left me feeling mostly indifference. But you can’t force it – affection either comes or it doesn’t. It does indeed look very pretty, as the previews suggested it would, and in both look and feel it has a distinct air of Ghibli about it. It features an interesting staff headed by talented French artist Vincent Ngheim as Art Director. It features a director of a show I dearly love ( Ikoku Meiro no Croisee), Yasuda Kenji, and comes from the always potentially interesting Satelight. It would be a lot easier if I liked Somali unreservedly.

So to say I went into this series with pretty high hopes is no misrepresentation. While I didn’t (and don’t) really know anything about the source material, I knew the previews were good and I knew the premise sounded appealingly closer to high fantasy than anime in the 2010’s was wont to venture. And it begins with a show that was solidly in my upper mid-range of expectations, Somali to Mori no Kamisama. Racing against time, he tries to find a human community that would be able to look after her and along the way, the two of them develop an unbreakable and pure father-daughter bond.Another season, another year – and so we begin this merry dance again. With this, despite knowing how humans are expected to be treated in his world, the golem takes it upon himself to make sure that the girl is safe. Amid all of this violence and persecution, a lone human girl runs into a golem who watches the forest. After being brutally killed by the other species, humans are almost at the brink of extinction. Among these, humans are more of a minority which often leads to oppression.

SOMALI TO MORI NO KAMISAMA EP 1 UPDATE
As soon as we get any official news regarding its release, we’ll update it here in this section. So, for now, we can expect ‘Somali and the Forest Spirit’ Season 2 to release sometime in 2022 or later. Moreover, only one or two volumes of the manga are released every year, so even by the end of 2020, the manga will have no more than 8 volumes.Īs of now, no official announcement has been made by Studio Satellite, but considering the lack of source material, it seems very less likely that we’ll get to see more of ‘Somali and the Forest Spirit’ in the near future. Thus, a lack of source material is certainly an issue here. This leaves the creators of the show with just one more volume for a sequel. The original manga from which it has been adapted has a total of 6 volumes so far and the first season of the anime adapts close to 5 of these. The first season of ‘Somali and the Forest Spirit’ premiered on Januand with a total of 12 episodes, it finished airing on March 26, 2020.
